Vermicelli Pudding (Sewai)

This is one of my mom's most favorite dessert and trust me no one makes it better than her. So since it is the festive season i thought it will only be fair if i share it with you guys. Happy Tihar everyone :)


VERMICELLI PUDDING (SEWAI)


INGREDIANTS:

Roasted Vermicelli- 1 cup
Milk- 500ml
Condensed MIlk- 4tbsp
Chopped Nuts- 1/2 cup
Ground Cardamom- 1tsp
Ghee- 1tsp

PROCEDURE:

1. Put the milk in a saucepan and bring it to boil.
2. Once the milk is boiled add vermicelli.
3. Cook in low heat until the vermicelli is soft.
4.Add grounded cardamom and condensed milk and stir it well.
5.Now roast the chopped nuts in ghee in a seperate pan.
6. Garnish the vermicelli pudding with the nuts and serve warm.

Another option for vegetarians :)

   As i am typing this i am drinking my juice not because i drink it every morning but simply because it is too hot for coffee. To be honest i am not a huge fan of vegetables never was but some days i just want to eat something plain and healthy. I actually crave for it. So in these days this recipe actually comes to be very handy. This one here is our special veg momo. I don't have a picture of it because i have no idea why i never took a picture of it (we eat it once every two weeks). But i will make sure i take a picture of it when we make it next time. Veg Momo Ingredients:  Potatoes- ½ kg (boiled)Green onion- ½ cup (chopped)Green coriander- ½ cup (chopped)Oregano- ½ tbspSalt- 1 tbspCumin powder- ½ tspCinnamon powder- ½ tspOil-3tbsp For dough: 
All purpose flour- ½ kg
Oil- 2 tbsp
Water- enough to knead the dough

 
 Procedure: ·        Mix all the above mentioned ingredients in a bowl and make fine mashed potatoes.
·        Now take the dough ingredients and make it into soft dough.
·        Make small rotis out of the dough and put the filling inside it. Wrap it and give it a shape you want.
·       
Steam it on the steamer for 10 min.

Summer is here :)

Summer is here and so is the ice cream season. Let's be real its always the ice cream season for the people who love desserts. Summer just justifies it more. Anyways this over here is the 3 ingredient ice cream recipe which is so easy to make but so delicious.




Ingredients:


  • 1/2 l heavy cream
  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 2 tbsp vanilla essence


Process:


  • Beat the ingredients until soft peaks are formed.
  • Take it out on a container.
  • Freeze it overnight.



You can also play with the ingredients and add any flavor you want. For example butterscotch in place of vanilla. Also i have topped it with caramel sauce but you can add your favorite toppings.

Chicken Leg



When you eat one certain dish too much you try to experiment with it. This is one such dish. i eat chicken at least 4 times a week, but if i could i would eat it every single day.  So eating it the same way every single day is not an option. So i try to experiment with it as much as i can. This one here is my pan fried chicken leg.

Ingredients:


  • 1 medium size chicken leg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon red chilly powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon oil


Procedure:


  • Take the chicken leg. Clean it.
  • Add all the ingredients and marinate it well.
  • Cover and leave the marinated chicken for 30 min-1 hour.
  • Pan fry it. (10 min on each side) in medium flame.

I am cooking traditional now :D

WOH a traditional newari dish made of black lentils. Now this picture is taken by me i know i am a horrible photographer but at least i cook OK. Being a newar we eat quite a lot of these kind of dishes woh, choyla being some of the must haves. My mom is the one who cooks all the traditional dishes but recently i have been learning some and this is the first dish i learned. so here is my mom's recipe of WOH.

Ingredients:

  • Black lentils (paste)-1cup
  • Corriander (chopped) - 1 cup
  • Salt -½ tsp
  • Ginger-garlic paste -½ tsp
  • Cumin powder - ½ tsp
  • Onion seeds-½ tsp  
  • Asafetida (hing)-1pinch
  • Oil -½ liter


Procedure:
  • ·        Firstly take black lentils, wash it properly and blend it in a blender until it forms a smooth paste. If you are using lentil powder add some water and form a paste.
  • ·        Now add all the ingredients in the paste and mix it well.
  • ·        Heat the oil in another pan. Make small ball of the paste and fry it well.
  • ·        Serve hot.
